Rick Blatter (Candidate for Mayor of Laval) went on a 44 day hunger strike on the front lawn of Laval City Hall in 2005 to demand a PUBLIC INQUIRY into CORRUPTION in Laval. The Charbonneau Commission eventually exposed/revealed the fact that Vaillancourt's illegal construction kickback election campaign financing scheme was actually rampant throughout the Province of Quebec. It was being used throughout the whole Province of Quebec by many corrupt municipal politicians and ALL the major Provincial Political Parties:
PLQ, PQ & ADQ.
This is why "no one knew anything", ALL the major provincial political parties in Quebec were doing the same thing. Only Vaillancourt took CORRUPTION to whole new EXTREMES.
FASTING vs starving & hunger strikes:
FASTING for spiritual growth and/or HEALTH is used to cleanse the body of toxins stored mostly in FAT, while also burning excess fat stores.
Healthy fasting requires lots of water to flush out toxins from the body (through urination) and to PREVENT DEHYDRATION. Pure FAT METABOLISM (ketosis) requires copious amounts of water, in EXTREME HEAT this can mean about a sip of water every 5 to 10 minutes.
The danger of Radical weight loss diets is not their caloric restriction, but rather the DEHYDRATION caused by almost pure FAT METABOLISM (ketosis). Far more water consumption than usual would make the wackiest diet "safe" if not carried out for more than 30 to 40 days. Longer than this may cause "nutrition deficiencies" to begin to appear.
The average adult can live approximately 65 days without eating under "ideal conditions" before they die of "starvation". After about 50 days of fasting all of an average adult's FAT RESERVES are depleted. This is when lean body mass: muscles, tissues and organs begin to be metabolized/ cannibalized. This is when actual "starvation" begins. Death shortly ensues. FASTS are terminated when FAT RESERVES are depleted, or in shorter fasts (2 to 7 days) long before this point is even approached.
Fasting is the voluntary and complete abstinence of all food
and beverages except water, while nutritive reserves remain
adequate for normal body function.
It has been used for thousands of years
and is used extensively in the animal kingdom.
Conversely hunger strikes are used to SHAME guilty parties into making redress. If hunger strikers HYDRATE themselves adequately they can FAST until their FAT RESERVES are depleted without danger. However, without proper HYDRATION, usually due to a lack of knowledge, or less than "ideal" environmental conditions, DEHYDRATION in EXTREME HEAT can occur within hours causing death.
Under "ideal conditions" the average adult cannot survive without water for more than 2 to 3 days, maximum 6 days. In EXTREME HEAT death can occur within hours without adequate water/ hydration.
Kindly note, my experience and research in FASTING dealt primarily with survival fasting. FASTING in the wild outdoors while fighting for survival and life against the elements, in EXTREMES of temperature and weather: "wilderness camping", hunger strikes, airplane crashes... and active living while fasting.
FASTING indoors in a cool relaxed COMFORTABLE CLINICAL or SPA SETTING with an IDEAL temperature controlled and humidified environment optimized FOR YOUR COMFORT will require less water, and less hydration.
The best "rule of thumb" is to take a couple of sips of water whenever you feel thirsty, or even think about food. Thinking about food? Take a couple of sips of water.

In the USA (& Canada), the Leading
Cause of Death from ages 8 to 25
is MV (Motor Vehicle) Accidents.
Pedestrians & Cyclists:
1.5 meters (5ft) minimum SAFETY Buffer Zone for Pedestrians & Cyclists:
Cars need to give Pedestrians & Cyclists a minimum of 1.5 meters SPACE as a SAFETY Buffer Zone. Ideally, when SAFE and possible, give them an Entire Lane: 3 meters (10ft) SPACE.
Trucks should IDEALLY give Pedestrians & Cyclists an Entire Lane, 3 meters (10ft) SPACE, whenever SAFE and possible. But NEVER LESS than 1.5 meters SPACE as a SAFETY Buffer Zone.
Because YOUR SAFETY not only depends upon YOU STOPPING IN TIME, but also on the CAR, SUV, or BIG TRUCK FOLLOWING YOU STOPPING IN TIME, you need to know and be aware of the STOPPING TIME of the vehicle(s) following you.
Whenever you come to an UNEXPECTED MAJOR SLOW-DOWN OR STOP, especially on high speed highways where people do not EXPECT major slow-downs or stops, IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATE YOUR FOUR-WAY HAZARD FLASHER LIGHTS to WARN VEHICLES BEHIND YOU THERE IS AN UNEXPECTED SLOW-DOWN.
In such an UNEXPECTED slow-down or SUDDEN STOP situation KEEP PLENTY OF SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE VEHICLE YOU ARE FOLLOWING (MINIMUM 3 TO 7 SECONDS) and look in your rear-view mirrors to make sure that the vehicle(s) behind you realize you are coming to a SLOW-DOWN or STOP. KEEPING A SAFETY BUFFER ZONE (MINIMUM 3 TO 7 SECONDS) will allow you to give the vehicle BEHIND YOU extra space and time to STOP or SLOW DOWN without rear-ending you. This SAFETY SPACE will also prevent the car/ truck that rear-ends you from pushing YOU into the rear-end of the vehicle in front of you!
ALSO look for and try to KEEP AN ESCAPE ROUTE OPEN at all times so that you can pull onto the RIGHT or LEFT SHOULDER in case the vehicle behind you cannot, or does not slow down or stop in time because of DISTRACTIONS.
Not only do you have to think for yourself, but you must also anticipate the reaction/ action, or lack there-of, of the driver(s) behind you. (If you want to stay alive).
ACTIVATING YOUR EMERGENCY FOUR-WAY HAZARD FLASHER LIGHTS as soon as you see an abnormal SLOWING DOWN or STOPPING of traffic on a high speed highway ALERTS the driver(s) following you of a DANGER. Once you see that the vehicles behind you have SAFELY SLOWED DOWN you can turn off your emergency four-way hazard flasher lights.
Since you are SHARING THE ROAD with BIG TRUCKS, you must learn their STOPPING DISTANCES/ TIME. Especially if one is behind you!
Whereas most cars can stop in 3 to 5 seconds, BIG TRUCKS take at least 7 to as much as 15 SECONDS to stop. So if you stop SAFELY in 3 to 5 seconds, but do not warn the BIG TRUCK behind you that you are making a SUDDEN STOP, and GIVE THE BIG TRUCK 7 to 15 SECONDS OF SPACE, that BIG TRUCK will push you and your car forwards for the EXTRA 4 TO 10 SECONDS IT NEEDS TO STOP. This can have disastrous results for you.
3, 7, 15 second RULE for Staying Alive on the Highway for BIG TRUCKS/ Professional Drivers:
3 second rule: never follow closer than 3 seconds.
7 second rule: ideally you want to keep seven (7) seconds (or more) separation between you & the vehicle you are following... although in the city, or in converging rush-hour traffic, maintaining 3 seconds may be a challenge.
15 second rule: on the open highway, and/or pulling LCVs, ideally you want to keep 15 seconds separation (or more) between you and the vehicle you are following.
On multi-lane highways try to remain in a staggered position. Try to always keep an escape route open. Avoid driving side by side with other vehicles when possible.
Keep other vehicles out of your BLIND SPOTS if possible, (by slowing down, or even speeding up if absolutely necessary). Double & Triple Check BLIND SPOTS before switching lanes.
Drive according to
weather, road and traffic conditions.
Listen to weather & traffic reports. Modern CBs will CUT IN automatically with HAZARDOUS WEATHER ALERTS in your immediate area warning you of: Freezing Rain, Winter Storms, Heavy Fog, Tornadoes, etc.
Google weather along your route.
In adverse weather stay parked.
1) get to the nearest full service truck stop.
2) get to the nearest Rest Area or other facility with Truck Parking & Services.
3) get to the nearest safe pull-out off the highway, such as a no-service Rest Area, or even an Exit Ramp. But get off the highway.
4) in extreme emergencies pull off onto the shoulder of the highway. Put on your lights & flashers. If you listen to weather reports, communicate with other drivers over CB, and observe signs such as igloo or ice-mobiles on the opposite side of the highway, or SEE more & more cars/ trucks in the ditch, this should never happen ! Get to a SAFE & COMFORTABLE location before you get stuck, or worse, are involved in a collision which may not even be your fault. INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS can lose control of their car and hit you... and this will probably go on your record as a "preventable accident".
But it is safer to be parked on the shoulder, rather than rolled over in the ditch!
However, it is even nicer to watch movies, relax... have showers, have access to heat/ air conditioning and nice restaurants in a FULL SERVICE TRUCK STOP rather be stuck in the middle of nowhere during a weather emergency. 99% of the time there are plenty of WARNING SIGNS before you get "stuck" in the middle of "nowhere".

In this hilarious video it is interesting to note that although even the best "snow & ice tires" have no traction on pure ice while skidding, if they roll they do offer some steering.
The green and white taxi finally eases up on his brakes at the bottom of the icy hill, allowing his wheels to turn, and thus enabling him to steer clear of the collisions at the bottom of the icy hill.
Also note the white van that was the only driver sensible enough to see that the OPPOSING LANE had no ice on it. He cleverly put at least his driver-side wheels onto the opposing lane giving him full control as he descended this notorious hill in downtown Montreal, (Beaver Hall Hill Road).
All the other drivers locked their wheels on pure ice. Locked wheels have no steering capabilities. They just slid down the icy hill like a toboggan, with no steering control.
Also note that these were all NEWER vehicles with the latest technology. Especially the BRAND NEW POLICE CRUISER. Despite ABS BRAKES and a host of all sorts of other "safety" and "traction control technology", they all skidded down the icy hill with wheels locked, and no control. The technology did not work in this situation.
Had these drivers pumped their brakes the old fashion way, as the green & white taxi finally did at the bottom of the hill, they could have steered towards the opposing lane where there was traction... as long as no vehicle was in that opposing lane. And we see few vehicles coming up the hill, so there was no danger of a head-on collision. The few vehicles we do see coming up the hill obviously have no traction problems. So this side was OK.
Better yet, had these drivers LOOKED AHEAD 15 seconds, or even 7 seconds, they would have noticed cars coming up the hill OK, but EVERYONE GOING DOWN was sliding OUT OF CONTROL.
In such a situation the RIGHT THING TO DO would be to STOP YOUR VEHICLE, put on your lights and hazard flashers, and try to SAFELY warn other drivers they should STOP and not proceed. Call the police. Shut down the road. (The police officer should have stopped at the top of the hill and done this... but he too was not LOOKING AHEAD 7 to 15 seconds so he got involved in skidding down the hill out of control, and crashed too.)
Note the black SUV that turns right at the light at the top of the hill after he sees the bus sliding down the hill out of control. This was also a good decision. This driver was looking ahead. However, had s/he been a GOOD SAMARITAN, they would have WARNED OTHER DRIVERS instead of just driving away safely.
What is astounding is that NO DRIVER, nor ANY OF THE MANY PEDESTRIANS witnessing this ordeal took the INTELLIGENT INITIATIVE to stop further traffic from going down the hill at least while the light was red. You should not endanger your own life, nor the lives of others through reckless intervention, but WHILE THE TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS RED, SOMEONE SHOULD/ COULD HAVE TOLD DRIVERS TO NOT PROCEED. CLOSE THE ROAD! SAFELY.
Here is what actually happened on this notorious hill in Montreal that infamous day. Some dispatcher erroneously ordered the SALT/ SAND Truck away from this hill after the North-bound (going up the hill) lane was sanded/ salted to do some other road. The South-bound (going down the hill) side was never sanded/ salted until this hilarious accident occurred.
Good news: no one was injured, and publicity for Montreal went viral and world-wide.
Don't get yourself into a 100 vehicle pile-up! LOOK FAR AHEAD... as far as possible and keep 7 to 15 secs. (or more) between you and the vehicle you are following.

Also, for the winter: keep a sturdy shovel in the truck and a bucket of crushed stone, sand or kitty litter to get you unstuck if necessary. An EMERGENCY winter sleeping bag and emergency warm clothes are also mandatory should your engine (& therefore heating) fail.
Be safe. Your LIFE depends on it!

3 second RULE: MINIMUM time it takes to STOP a car IF YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION. This is on DRY ROADS, under ideal conditions. For wet roads, or on snow it may take DOUBLE these times! On ICE it will take even longer! You should not be driving on ICE unless you are equipped with studded snow tires or chains. Stay home. Stay parked. Stay SAFE.
7 second RULE: MINIMUM time it takes to STOP a Big Truck that is empty, on dry roads, under ideal conditions. Cars/ SUVs may also take up to 7 seconds to stop on wet, or snow covered roads.
15 second RULE: A fully loaded Big Truck can take up to 15 seconds to STOP on dry roads, under ideal conditions. For wet roads, or on snow, it may take DOUBLE these times!
*DISTRACTIONS: INCREASE these times. Pay Attention. Do not get distracted while driving.
*Rain & Snow: can DOUBLE these times! (Or more if really slippery/ icy!)
*ICE: on pure ice, especially in FREEZING RAIN you have NO CONTROL ! Stay home. Stay parked. Get off the highway/road until the sand/salt truck passes. This includes SUVs/4 wheel Drives: they don't stop any better on ICE either. They have better ACCELERATION traction under slippery conditions, but exactly the same LACK OF STOPPING traction as everyone else.
In freezing rain wait it out at home, at work, or some other safe location. If on the road, STOP at the closest rest area, coffee shop... get off the road! Stay in a hotel or at friends overnight if must be. Usually the next morning the SUN will be shining, roads will be SAFE, and you will see cars and trucks in every ditch because they had "no time to stop". (Now they need a tow truck, and repairs.)

NO-ZONES are BLIND SPOTS for Big Trucks that YOU should avoid being in because the Truck Driver might not see you there. Stay out of NO-ZONES/ BLIND SPOTS when possible.

However, the CAUSE of depression is totally different.

The better solution would be to help EVERYONE improve their economic outlook and status.

☆ Debt forgiveness for those that have paid SEVERAL TIMES the principal already.
